Michelle Kaufmann, the award winning Architect that started her own modular company to build “green modular homes” may have called it quits in California but another company, Blu Homes has taken up the gauntlet and started a factory in Massachusetts.
Why are so many architects jumping on this “green” bandwagon? One simple reason…they believe in what they’re doing to help the environment. Blu Homes is just the latest of these cottage factories to hit the market promising a low impact on the environment and a low carbon footprint.
I discovered them a couple of weeks ago and to be honest, I really found their website BORING! My God, do they have to tell you everything they know in paragraph after paragraph? They may have a great product but after the first 1,000 words I just wish they would show me more and talk less.
I don’t think they have actually built and sold one yet, but I could be wrong. Their floorplans look good but are rather small and Spartan. And they look a lot like Michelle’s designs. I wish them all the luck but finding a market for a high priced “Green” home is going to be difficult now that Warren Buffet has entered the market with Clayton Homes “I-House”
